El Portal: Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Northeast wind 9 to 11
mph becoming west southwest.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. West southwest wind between 6
and 9 mph becoming calm.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South southeast wind at 9 mph
becoming west.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33. North northwest wind
between 5 and 9 mph.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 66. North northwest wind between 5 and 9
mph.

GSA Auction - The General Services Administration will be conducting an
internet auction of Yosemite personal property consisting of pickup trucks,
the Mariposa Grove tram, a horse trailer, chain saws and a fork lift. The
auction opens on 03/12/2008, and closes on 03/19/2008. The sale is number
91QSI08084 #315-322. These items are located in the yard adjacent to the
warehouse in El Portal for inspection, and are marked with yellow item
number cards. Park employees are allowed to participate in the sale, with
the exception of any employee with unfair (nonpublic) detailed knowledge or
prior use of an item offered for sale. Such employees are prohibited from
bidding on that item, and the prohibition includes their immediate family
as well. Employees must view the items and bid on their own time. For
further information regarding the sale items or to register to bid, visit

Good-bye Luncheon for Cyndi Gonzales - Come join us on March 19, 2008 at
noon for a potluck on the top deck outside the Parkwide Custodial Office in
El Portal in saying good-bye to Cyndi Gonzales. Cyndi is leaving us for
Monterey and we want all to have the chance to wish her well. Hot Dogs and
Hamburgers will be provided. Please bring a side dish that goes with

The Yosemite Training Center has scheduled 1st Aid and CPR classes through
the first week of June. Sign up by calling The Clinic at 372-4637. If your
unit has a lot of seasonal workers or full time employees who need training
before the summer, call us and let's schedule a class at your workplace.
After the first week of June classes will be difficult to arrange unless

John Muir National Historic Site, Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site,
Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park, and
Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial - Deputy Superintendent Rick
Smith is retiring from the National Park Service after completing 33 years
of federal service. We plan on giving him a fine send off on June 6, 2008,
6:00 pm, location will be in either the city of Richmond or Martinez. We
are still working out the details.

Rick has worked in many parks including Golden Gate NRA, USS Arizona,
Yosemite, and most recently in the San Francisco/East Bay four park
complex: John Muir National Historic Site, Eugene O'Neill National
Historic Site, Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National
Historical Park, and Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial.

Two new AED locations in El Portal - The Division of Resources Management
and Science has purchased and installed two new Automated External
Defibrillators. One has been installed in the first floor of the new RMS
building in the Maintenance complex and one has been installed in the lower

Introduction to Spanish Language Classes
March 2008 Balanced Rock Community Series
Time: 7:00 pm-8:30pm Please be on time!
Dates: March 19, 26, (Wednesday evenings)

Suggested Donation: $10/class Donations directly support BRF community
events.

This class is very beginner friendly. The classes will be set up to be as
much immersion in the language as possible, but some English will be used
to enable understanding. Example topics Xavier will use to excite interest
in the class will be; comida (food), antropologia (anthropology), cultura
fronteriza (border culture), theoria cultura (cultural theory), y
literatura feminista (feminist theory).

Please bring a notebook, writing utensil, and inquisitive mind. If you
have a Spanish/English dictionary it would be useful.

The class teaches Mexican Spanish and delves into local use of the
language, history and culture of the language and much more. The class
will be tailored to the participants abilities and interests, and will
expand if there is interest.
