No waiting in entrance gate lines. Be wary of other Yosemite Lodging claiming to be close to Yosemite National Park, ask how far they are from Yosemite Valley.

Our main Yosemite Lodging and Cabins website is at: www.4yosemite.com

We offer the closest private lodging to Yosemite Valley for rent. INSIDE of Yosemite Park, these vacation homes are only a 15 minute drive or 7 miles from Yosemite Valley. You can see Half Dome, El Capitan and the beautiful surrounding high Sierra Nevada from some of the decks of our vacation homes.

Located in Foresta, a small private subdivision inside Yosemite's borders, these homes are surrounded by Yosemite National Park. Once you have paid the $20 entrance fee you won't be bothered again by having to wait in the entrance station lines as our lodging is inside Yosemite Park. You are now free to roam this treasure of a National Park. Perfect for your Yosemite vacation!

Escape the hectic crowds found in Yosemite Valley and retreat to the peace and quiet of our homes in Foresta. There has been very little development here with only 30 private homes in the area. Due to the unique nature of Foresta, private inholdings inside Yosemite, very few more will be homes built. At 4,200' in elevation and high on a ridge, these rental cabins offer relief from the hot summer temperatures found at other accommodations. Temperatures rarely go above the mid 80's while temps in the 100's are the norm for areas such as Oakhurst, Mariposa and El Portal. Gentle summer breezes blow across the ridges in Foresta every morning and night. A devastating wildfire swept through the area in 1990 hence the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The area has made a remarkable comeback with thousands of new 20 to 30ft. pine and oak trees blanketing the area.

Centrally located, on Hwy 120, it is an easy drive to many of the Yosemite's attractions. You can quickly drive to Glacier Point, Inspiration Point, Valley View, or down into Yosemite Valley to enjoy the vistas. A short drive from the vacation Cabins are the Tuolumne and Merced Groves of Giant Sequoia Big Trees. Some old 1900 barns and a small pioneer cemetery are located right down the street from the lodging or take a 5 minute drive for a dip in one of the relaxing swimming holes. A 45 minute drive will put you in the alpine splendor of Tuolumne Meadows, which at 8,500 ft above sea level is the place to go when its hot. Here you can relax on the white sands of Tenaya Lake or take a horse ride while enjoying views of the high country.

Summer in national parks can mean jammed campsites, packed parking lots, and views obscured by the crowds. However, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the beauty and quiet of the great outdoors.

New Yosemite Indian war: Tribes fight over place in history

Jeannette Simons, the park's Native American liaison, said Yosemite consults with seven area tribes, including a couple of Paiute bands in the Eastern Sierra, not just the Southern Sierra Miwok. "I have no indication from any of these tribes that they view these people (the Andrews and Rhoan group) as any authority," Simons said.

"A lot of the things we have in the park are based on a historic period" in the 1900s when there was a Miwok village in Yosemite, she said.

A statue and 1949 photo of "Chief Lemee," a park employee who danced in Miwok and Plains Indian regalia, have been criticized by the Paiutes "because some of the regalia maybe wasn't authentic to their tribe," Simon said. "But that's part of history."

Where are all the rangers?

Jane Engle, TRAVEL INSIDER

On a recent visit to Yosemite National Park, I was enchanted by new paved trails and boardwalks that meandered through towering pines, shady glades and rippling streams at the base of Yosemite Falls.

Along the way, I also found new interpretive plaques, one of which alerted me to a small granite spur near the Upper Falls called Lost Arrow.

"Its name comes from a story about a deer hunter who was in the high country celebrating his conquests," the plaque said. "From the cliffs above the valley, he shot a victory arrow into the air. When the wayward point dropped to the ground, it turned to stone."

This was just the sort of insight, I mused, that a park ranger might provide — if you could find one.
